Tessa Allgeier, MCIM, Chartered Marketer
Tessa has many years experience as an independent consultant specialising in customer and market research and social marketing. After her postgraduate year at Kingston University, she began her career as a field manager for Harris Research, followed by design consultancy work with clients as diverse as the Brighton Festival and American Express.
She moved into the public sector and successfully established a customer-focused approach to research and marketing at Brighton & Hove Council. At the start of her freelance career she wrote a national training manual on research practice for the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy, and regularly facilitates national and regional workshops, seminars and events within the public sector.
She lectures CIM Diploma students across all four modules, is a Chartered and full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and registered as a CIM consultant. Tessa also works as an Associate consultant for a number of organisations delivering strategic marketing and research projects - often within performance management or engagement frameworks. Tessa has led and managed award-winning customer research projects and has recently been asked to deliver Social Marketing training within the Health sector across the UK.
Ian Baines
Ian worked as a Production engineer at BAE Systems then developed his career through product management to become Marketing Director and subsequently Managing Director of a number of high tech SME's within the Aerospace sector
He has significant experience in the development and implementation of marketing plans and has a particular interest in the evaluation of marketing activities
His MBA focussed on the role of SME's and the development of suitable export strategies for high tech organisations
He now works at Cranfield University developing their Aerospace Sector relationships and is a Fellow of the CIM.
Liz Barnes
Liz began her career in marketing 20 years ago in classic FMCG roles with Express Dairies, Trebor and Kimberley Clark, where she became European marketing manager for Kleenex tissues. In the early 1990s she joined Eurotunnel to help launch its new holiday business. The challenges and insights gained from working in a service environment prompted her move into business consultancy and training, specialising in marketing, communications, human behaviour and customer services. She has trained corporate clients and SMEs and is now a regular speaker at various conferences, sharing her passion for ConNectworking - Effective Business Networking. Liz has lectured on Chartered Institute of Marketing programmes for nine years. She has also taught management on DMS and CIMS programmes. Liz is currently lecturing degree students at Brighton University. She is also an active branch member of the local Chartered Institute of Marketing executive committee.
Red Barrington, Chartered Marketer
As a rapidly emerging industry specialist in online marketing, Red Barrington has garnered a direct marketing reputation of note particularly in email, affiliate and data marketing techniques. With more than four years working with leading industry specialists, Red has proven herself to be successful in many areas including data buying, data sales and customer relationship management while at the same time providing consultancy services for many internet start ups. As a Chartered Marketer with an MSc in Marketing Red is passionate and committed to the discipline, although does find time for the odd game of netball!
Mike Barrett
Mike has been involved in management learning since 1999 when he joined MTP plc after 12 years as a marketing professional. Freelance since 2005, he now develops and delivers training and facilitation solutions around the world for companies including Unilever, Philips, Henkel and BSI.
As a graduate in Business from Kingston, Mike worked in the PR and promotions industry, latterly as director of a PR and events company, working with clients including Nestle, Apple Computer and Guinness.
Mike then spent five years as Account Director at a leading sponsorship agency, helping British Airways develop and implement their sponsorship strategy. Projects included co-ordinating BA's support of an International Children's Conference and their involvement with the British Olympic and Paralympic teams. Mike was also involved in sponsorship programmes for NatWest Bank and Stella Artois.
It was during this period that Mike first became involved in teaching courses on the Chartered Institute of Marketing programme, before his move into full-time training in 1999.
Lyndon Beardsle, MCIM. Dip.M. Chartered Marketer
Lyndon has 25 years commercial management experience in the fmcg sector including retail, sales and trade marketing for companies such as PepsiCo Foods, Boots Healthcare International and Kodak. He is currently the Commercial Manager for Boehringer Ingelheim Consumer Healthcare working on local and global initiatives. He is also a director of the UK's Health and Beauty Association.
Lyndon completed all levels of the CIM programme from certificate and advanced certificate at Nottingham Trent University Business School. He went on to attain the Post Graduate Diploma with the Oxford College of Marketing becoming a Chartered Marketer the following year.
Dan Bennett
Dan is currently a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at the University of Brighton, and in his spare time runs a small (but perfectly formed) consultancy which advises SME's, on their marketing and communications planning. He is also a visiting lecturer at Queens University (Canada), the Ecole de Management Normandie (France) and the Ecole de Savignac (France). When not doing all of the above or sleeping, Dan is also a PhD student at the University of Southampton.
He is a regular conference presenter and is a Co-Chair of the Academy of Marketing's Special Interest Group on the Marketing of Higher Education. He has been published several times by the Association for the Advancement of Relationship Marketing and by the Learning and Teaching Support Network. His research interests include the credibility of marketing communications, Higher Education marketing, relationship based approaches to marketing, and the history of marketing.
Tony Bennett, Chartered Marketer
Tony Bennett started his career with ICI in a variety of international marketing and general management roles. More lately positions in Astra Zeneca and CHEP included Business strategy and planning which were coupled with on-going management of brands.
Responsibility for the bottom-line has emphasised to Tony the importance of multi-disciplinary teams and for marketers to fully understand the many components that make up profitable business
Over the last 7 years Tony has developed his own marketing consultancy with a focus on SME's including interim management and trusteeship of a sizeable local charity and the development of it's trading company as director.
A Fellow of CIM and Chartered Marketer, Tony has tutored for Oxford College for 5 years at both Brighton and Reading Universities.
Susan Bishop Chartered Marketer
Susan Bishop has spent the last 17 years shaping companies marketing plans and assisting them to develop both their organisation and people to meet the challenges of the market. Working best as a catalyst for change by undertaking specific, measurable projects, Susan helps both operational staff and senior management recognise new business development opportunities and implement strategic and tactical marketing activities.
Susan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton teaching Fashion Retailing, Retail Consultancy, Ethical Retail and Marketing Planning.
In 2005 Susan conceived the Creative Fashion Forum, a group of small independent fashion retailers and designers. The membership has grown and developed over the last 4 years resulting in a community of local and national fashion businesses. Members meet to discuss challenges in sourcing overseas, e.tailing, PR, Branding, web design, franchising, styling and selling into department stores. She has a Postgraduate Degree in Marketing from the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) and is a Chartered Marketer
Laura Butler
Business Development and Student Services Executive
Laura has lived in Oxfordshire for the past 7 years, and currently lives with her partner in the village of Kidlington. She has several years sales experience in the competitive world of recruitment dealing mainly with large SME's and Blue chip clients. She is currently studying for the certificate in Marketing and hopes to progress though the levels. In her spare time Laura enjoys going to gigs, reading trashy magazines, cycling her bike and swimming.
Cheryl Brown MCIM, DipM, Chartered Marketer
Cheryl Brown has been a tutor with the Oxford College of Marketing since January 2006, and as one of its former students, knows well the demands of studying alongside a full-time job and the joys of graduating. Cheryl leads on marketing for the Knowledge Services at the Institute of Development Studies, in Sussex and has substantial experience of marketing to different cultures, stakeholder management and finding creative ways of serving a global online audience on a small budget.
Lucy Carter
Lucy worked at Nationwide Building Society for more than seven years where she was in product management and more recently marketing communications controller heading up a large team responsible for consumer communications. She left to start a family and joined Oxford College of Marketing.
Lucy has also worked in education marketing as a media planner/buyer for an ad agency and in a government press office. Her specialisms are communications strategy and practice and marketing team management.
Lucy has a degree in human communication, majoring in psychology, linguistics and marketing, a postgraduate certificate in marketing and a Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing. She is a member and former student of the year of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Bruce Clayton
Bruce has extensive experience both on and offline, having worked in both TV, Radio and for online media owners before moving into affiliate marketing in 2003. Gaining experience with both general and specialist networks, Bruce joined forces with an industry-leading affiliate to found Existem Affiliate Management, a multi-award winning company delivering management solutions and consultancy to a wide variety of clients.
Graham Cooper, Chartered Marketer
A practising marketer with experience in a blue chip company, Graham has worked with the training consultancy Bradshawe Peacock where he developed and delivered training courses for HMG, the NHS and various blue chip companies. For ICL he has been responsible for the development of sustained revenue growth within his government accounts, planned promotion campaigns involving contact at the highest civil service level, and developed the marketing strategy delivering growth from £42m to £70m.
Graham's marketing interests lie in strategic marketing, the modelling of marketing behaviour and the development of standard tools. He is currently delivering a series of post-graduate seminars on marketing for public procurement. He is also deputy chief examiner for the Managing Marketing Performance Module for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
Diane Cotton
Diane is our recently appointed Regional Manager for Liverpool and has a wealth of experience both in marketing and tutoring. Diane worked for 12 years for an international flavour company assisting in the development of global strategic marketing plans. In 2003 she embarked upon a career change and commenced teaching business courses including CIM Professional qualifications at both Certificate and Diploma levels to students worldwide studying either part-time, full-time or as distance learners.
Diane holds the CIM Post-graduate Diploma, has recently undertaken the Certificate of Further Education and is a member of the Institute for Learning. She is currently working towards Chartered Marketer status.
Andy Cropper, Senior Lecturer
Andy is a Senior Lecturer within the marketing subject group at Sheffield Hallam University and would describe himself as a 'practical marketer' rather than as a full blown academic. He has had considerable experience within industry, gaining his initial skills within the service sector but having since been involved in a wide range of industry sectors.
In 1992 he moved into consultancy, combining this with a moderate lecturing workload. Within a short period, however, he became the Marketing Director of a telecommunications company and this grew to occupy most of his time until 1998. Whilst retaining his directorship, he then made a conscious move back into consultancy, focussing mainly upon the rapidly emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe. This has included a 4 year programme working with the Czech Government and Czech companies in developing business competitiveness, business development programmes in Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia and the Ukraine and small business generation activities in Siberia.
He is currently a Director of Bridge4, a consultancy company focussing upon stimulating and facilitating business activities between the UK and the Ulkraine.
Angela Dalrymple
Angela Dalrymple has 24 years' experience in marketing strategy and lecturing. Angela has held senior marketing and lecturing roles with major international enterprises and business schools.
In addition to working with Oxford College of Marketing, Angela lectures MBA students in Marketing with an international university in London, and is a board director with an international consultancy and research organisation. Angela previously held senior global marketing positions with AT&T, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Reuters.
Angela served on the board of the government Young Enterprise scheme in London, developing business enterprise programmes in the London area.
Angela has an MA and BA from Oxford University, and a Diploma in Management Studies with Distinction from Henley Management College. Angela is a member of the MRS, CIM and Institute of Directors.
Angela's specialist areas include marketing research & planning, market strategy, market analysis & forecasting, segmentation, channel strategies, competitor analysis, product management, global marketing, services marketing, and business-to-business marketing.
Gill Evans, MBA MCIM
Gill has over 25 years of marketing and sales experience gained with major blue-chip companies such as Bell & Howell, Sony Broadcast and O2 UK where she held key management positions. Gill's career has focused on B2B channels and she has had particular success with partnership and distributor business models seeing strong commercial relationships as the way forward in today's highly competitive environment.
Whilst working, Gill completed her marketing education with the CIM and was inspired to further her professional development gaining an MBA in Strategic Marketing with University of Hull. She also spent some time as an examiner on the Post Grad Diploma MMIP (case study) module, experience that she continues to draw on as a lecturer for Oxford College of Marketing.
Tim Fidgeon
Tim has worked as a consultant within the fields of copywriting, usability and search engine optimisation for over 7 years and has been invited to speak at 'Internet World'.
After having spent the first part of his career working for traditional digital agencies, he now offers freelance consultancy and training to such organisations as BT, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, e-Consultancy, General Motors and Sony.
Ian Finlayson, MA (Marketing), MA (Govt.), BA (Hons), FHEA, PgCE
University lecturer and management trainer with eleven years’ experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including CIM, in marketing and business studies to students and managers in the UK, France, China and America.
Ian‘s easygoing, plain-English style of teaching makes learning for CIM qualifications fun and, as a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, effective.
Ian has wide fir.sthand experience of marketing and business having held senior positions with Unilever, Cadbury Schweppes, Nationwide, Royal Bank of Scotland and UK & American consultancies specialising in marketing, leadership and change.
Outside work Ian enjoys, swimming, photography and walking.
Andrew Geoghegan
Andrew heads up the marketing insights team for PepsiCo International UK and Ireland, working on the UK's biggest brand Walkers Crisps as well as the other parts of PepsiCo's portfolio including Tropicana, Quaker, and Pepsi Beverages. Andrew's previous experience includes ACNielsen where he worked with major FMCG manufacturers, such as Unilever and Britvic, analysing market trends and consumer behaviour. He has also worked in the market research industry undertaking a broad range of qualitative and quantitative market research.
Dr Cigdem Gogus
Cigdem holds a PhD in Marketing from Henley Business School, University of Reading and an MBA in E-Business from Cass Business School, City University London. Her expertise areas include consumer behaviour, e-business, and mobile marketing. She is currently supervising MBA dissertations as Visiting Faculty at Henley Business School.
Prior to joining Oxford College of Marketing she was working as a Teaching Assistant for International Marketing at London School of Economics. Before moving into academia Cigdem had a successful professional career and worked for over five years in the software and textile industries where she held positions in account/customer management, sales, procurement and merchandising.
Gill Hall Chartered Marketer
Gill runs her own Oxford-based consultancy, Boxtree Marketing, having spent 20 years working in B2B marketing roles in a range of companies, from SME's to large Corporates.
Following a degree from Leeds University in French and Spanish, Gill began her marketing career in new product development and then moved into financial services, becoming head of marketing and communications for Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance. Here she led a major branding project, delivered award-winning campaigns and launched product innovations which helped position the company as the UK market leader.
Gill also worked in a strategic advisory consultancy in the pharma/biotech sector before setting up on her own. Now she specialises in helping her clients, both in the UK and Europe, develop and implement customer-led marketing strategies to help shape their businesses.
Gill has the Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, is a Chartered Marketer and CIM member.
Kate Hamilton, Chartered Marketer
Kate's career has spanned all the key marketing disciplines working both internationally and domestically for Groupe Bull, Citizen Europe, Royal Mail, One-2-One (now T- mobile), Lucent Technologies and Avaya. Since setting up her own B2B direct marketing consultancy last year, she has worked with a number of clients including Novell, Magic4 and Openwave. As a professional with many years' experience in the communications and technology sectors, Kate has delivered several award winning programmes that have directly impacted the bottom lines of blue chip businesses.
Kate is a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing and holds degrees in business studies and organic chemistry. She lectures part-time for the Oxford College of Marketing and the Institute of Direct Marketing and is currently working on her MBA dissertation with Henley Management College.
Lisa Harris, Chartered Marketer
Lisa had 10 years' commercial experience with Lloyds bank, where she was responsible for marketing new international payment services together with the management of a network of business relationships with other banks.
While she was working she completed an MBS degree and the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing. She then moved to Brunel University where she studied for a PHD focusing on the management issues arising from the implementation of new technologies in retail banking. Lisa is now lecturing in marketing at Brunel University and is also part of an international team sponsored by the European Commission to study interfirm collaborative networks for new product development.
She is an active branch member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and secretary of the Royal Counties branch.
Joy Hawthorne, Chartered Marketer
Joy is Commercial Director for GfK NOP where she has numerous Government, financial and regulatory bodies/agencies as clients. She spent over 10 years working in high street retail management for Arcadia. She has also lectured in Marketing at Oxford Brookes University. Joy has a BA Hons in Marketing, MBA, Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, and a Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education. She was until relatively recently, Chair of the Trustee Board of Oxford Citizens Advice Bureau.
Tamzie Hollands
Tamzie is a qualified and experienced marketer having worked in both financial and place marketing environments for 12 years prior to moving into lecturing full time five years ago. She now teaches predominately on marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing and Communication, Advertising and Marketing Foundation) and management programmes. Having been an examiner on the Chartered Institute of Marketing Certificate course for three years, Tamzie is now a member of the marking team for the Marketing Communications module. As an experienced examiner she knows what the Chartered Institute of Marketing is looking for in both exam and assignment work.
Jane Horne
Jane has extremely broad industry experience gained through a successful eight-year marketing career with the Nationwide Building Society. As product manager for the company's multi award winning general insurance portfolio, she has experience in all marketing disciplines, as well as training and project management. As well as being a part-time Oxford College of Marketing lecturer, Jane also manages her own marketing consultancy specialising in the IT and insurance industries. Jane graduated from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in 1998 achieving a student of the year award and is currently working towards Chartered Marketer status.
Christine Jackman, Chartered Marketer
Christine has 12 years' experience as a marketer across the service industry, both in the profit and non-profit sectors having worked for notable organisations such as Grant Thornton Accountants and Oxfam GB. She is currently Director of an agency providing marketing and PR services and consultancy to a wide variety of clients, at both a strategic planning and project management level. Christine is also a CIM Examiner for the Certificate in Marketing. She values all continuing professional development, holding an MBA and is an Affiliate of the Institute for Learning. Christine is a full member of the CIM and a Chartered Marketer having completed the CIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing with the Oxford College of Marketing some years ago!
Chris Jones
Chris has enjoyed a highly successful career in general management and strategic international sales and marketing with Xerox Worldwide. He has worked throughout Europe, Arabia, Oceania and Africa. In Rwanda the introduction of digital colour printing allowed the World Health Organisation to deliver its key health messages despite low literacy levels. Chris successfully completed an MBA at Manchester Business School with the aim of expanding his business knowledge and potential and graduated with distinction in 2004. Since then he has set up Commercial Inspirations which consults with high technology start-ups. As a member of both the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Directors Chris is continuing his professional development and is also an active member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Manchester management committee.
Ardi Kolah
Ardi studied law at King's College London and before joining the BBC in news and current affairs. He has over 15 years' public relations and communications management experience, specialising in business transformation and internal communications practice in both the private and public sectors. He has worked for many leading international organisations in roles that combine strategy and implementation of major PR and change management programmes, including the BBC, Andersen Consulting, CMG plc, Imperial Cancer Research Fund, the DTI and HM Royal Navy.
Ardi is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Marketers in the City of London. In April 2003, he received the prestigious Hollis Sponsorship Award for his work on the British Independent Film Awards.
Ardi is also a published author whose works include Maximising the Value of Sports Sponsorship (Financial Times) and Essential Law for Marketers (Butterworth Heinemann). He is a board director of the IPR and the European Sponsorship Consultants Association and is a visiting lecturer at the Judge Institute of Management, Cambridge University.
Tim Lane
Tim spent his early years in FMCG sales with companies such as Proctor and Gamble, Duracell and Dairy Crest Foods, where he was National Sales Manager. He ran the sales and marketing side of things for his family business, until it was eventually sold to Whitbread. Tim then acted as consultant marketing director to a children's leisure business until he emerged to join the Oxford College lecturing team in Brighton and Tutoring Distance Learning students. Tim has worked on CIM courses for a number of years and was a Senior Lecturer. He has an MBA, a Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Marketing and a BSC in Business Studies.
Tim is now an Examiner for the new module Assessing the Marketing Environment.
Elizabeth Lye
Elizabeth worked in the editorial and marketing departments ofpublishing houses in London for nine years before moving up to Sheffield. She took a maternity break and freelancing as copy editor and publicity copywriter, working for publishers and government departments. She has developed marketing at Sheffield Hallam University in many subject areas. Elizabeth studied for her CIM Certificate and Diploma part time and gained an MSc in Marketing Management in 2007.
She divides her time between European Business Development, marketing communications and lecturing in Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University and tutoring for Oxford College of Marketing.
Michael Lynch, Chartered Marketer
Michael is a CIM Chartered Marketer as well as a CIM Examiner. He is currently Head of Demand Planning with National Savings & Investments and since 2007 has been Chairman of their Marketing and Sales Committee; in 2008 –‘09 NS&I had gross inflows of over £26 billion. With over 20 years marketing and sales experience, Michael has previously held senior positions with Royal & Sun Alliance Investment Management and AXA Investment Managers.
Michael is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA UK), the Financial Services Forum and the Market Research Society (MRS). Michael is a graduate of Cranfield School of Management from where he attained an MSC in Strategic Marketing and is a Fellow of the CIM.
Roger McGee
Roger McGee is an experienced and well qualified tutor, with many years of teaching and supporting students at all levels of the CIM qualifications route. Now working with Oxford College, I am delighted to be involved in assignment support for the new Professional Diploma.
My qualifications include a Master's degree in Marketing and I am also a Chartered Marketer. I have a Master's degree in Education and I am a fellow of the CIPD and a qualified teacher/trainer.
Previous commercial experience includes several years in the publishing and newspaper industry and preparing marketing plans for a national charity.
Recent consultancy work was work with DEFRA on three projects (latest in 2008)

Ray Murphy
Ray joins us this year as our new Distance Learning Manager, a new post introduced to launch and manage our new DL programmes.
After a career in marketing management with Littlewoods Pools and Warrington Development Corporation in the late 1970's Ray joined the Whittle International Group initially as Sales and Marketing Manager, eventually taking on the role of General Manager.
In 1983 he set up his own Marketing Consultancy usiness specialising in work with small/medium sized businesses, and became a listed consultant under the government funded Marketing Initiative programme. He has written a number of distance learning texts covering marketing and management topics and produced and appeared in a number of training videos.
He is a Chartered Marketer, holds the CIM PG Diploma in Marketing, has a psychology degree and Certificate in Education, and has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing since 1971. He also lectures at a major college in the northwest where he has been managing and delivering CIM programmes for over 18 years. Ray also bolsters the Northern contingent of OCOM – living in Wigan with his wife.
Andrew Orchard
Qualifying as a teacher in 1971, Andrew has many years of teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. On completion of his MBA from the Henley Management College, he became involved with running and teaching Chartered Institute of Marketing programmes in the London area. He has developed considerable experience in teaching at all levels of the programme and in addition to his university lecturing carries out marketing consultancy for SMEs. His research interests focus around CRM and e-marketing. In addition to his lecturing Andrew is an external examiner in travel and tourism for Hertfordshire University's franchised courses at Cologne Business School.
Angus Phillips
Angus is a senior lecturer at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies. He specialises in strategy projects and business research, as well as management, editorial and marketing training. He has degrees from Oxford University (BA) and Warwick University (MBA), and many years' experience in the publishing industry.
Rosie Phipps, Chartered Marketer
Rosie Phipps is the founder of Oxford College of Marketing and the Principal.
Rosie trained as a pharmacist before going into market research and marketing with Sterling Winthrop and Beecham products. She managed and lectured Chartered Institute of Marketing courses for many years at the Oxford College of Further Education where her students achieved record passes. Rosie has the Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. In addition she has trained at the Tavistock clinic in individual, group and organisational behaviour. She is co-author of the Chartered Institute of Marketing texts Understanding Customers and The Marketing/Customer Interface (Butterworth Heinemann) and wrote Start Your Own Business, a BBC book. Rosie has also been a city councillor on Oxford City Council and is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Liz Ratcliffe Chartered Marketer
Dr Liz Ratcliffe, BSc, PhD (Bristol), DPIM has over 13 years senior marketing experience, gained within the publishing, broadcast, engineering and Information technology industries and also from within the Public Sector.
She is currently the Head of Product Marketing and Propositions at the National Mapping Agency, Ordnance Survey, where she is responsible for the strategic marketing function within the organisation, as well as for new product development.
In October 2008, Liz graduated from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, gaining her Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, and also wiping the board of awards, gaining 5 of the 7 International awards that year, the first time anyone has done so in the history of the CIM. She won best UK, best International and best Executive student awards as well as coming top in 2 of the 4 modules.
In her spare time Liz has a passion for the theatre and for all types of music, and is also a keen sailor and scuba diver, enjoying many water-related exploits at her home in Lymington, Hampshire.
Adam Raman
Adam Raman BSc, MBA (Warwick), DIPM, has over 15 years' international senior marketing experience gained within the pharmaceutical and consulting industries. He is currently a senior lecturer at Kingston University, where as well as teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the UK and the Russian Federation, he is also completing his doctorate in strategic marketing. In November 2004 Adam was appointed deputy chief examiner for the Analysis and Evaluation Module of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing. An accomplished scuba diver, Adam aims to dive all of the world's famous dive sites as well as gaining professional recognition in the sport.
Richard Ridge
Richard has worked for several years in web marketing and marketing communications for the IT sector, including such areas as telecommunications, digital television, gaming, e-commerce and electronic funds transfer.
He has a first class honours degree from Oxford and holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing.
Jack Roberts
Jack is a practising Chartered Marketer who specialises in helping small to medium businesses grow by applying marketing principles. He has nearly 20 years experience in marketing roles including Marketing Manager for Halifax plc and has the Diploma of the Institute of Direct Marketing as well as the CIM's Certificate in eMarketing Excellence. As well as lecturing, training and assignment mentoring with the Oxford College of Marketing, he lectures part-time at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.
He believes that marketing is not just a set of communication tools and techniques - it is a way of doing business. It means understanding your customer's needs and wants and then channelling all aspects of your company to meet those needs and wants. That's what leads to profit and success. Jack's skill is in giving you the skills to do that in your own company. He lives and breathes practical marketing and business development for companies every day. Sahar Shehzad, Account Support Executive
Sahar has over five years experience in the field of Accountancy and Finance. She has worked with big corporate giants like KPMG, Drax Plc and Norwich Union. Currently she is studying ACCA and in her final stage and soon will be a qualified Accountant. She now works as part of the support team of the College. She recently moved to Oxford from York and lives with her husband.
Dr Tim Sellick
In addition to his duties with The Oxford College of Marketing Tim also teaches sales and marketing at Birmingham City University at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Tim also runs his own Marketing consultancy which enables him to feedback his experiences and skills into the classes he runs. Tim is a qualified teacher in post compulsory education and in addition to his first degree in Marketing holds an MBA and a Doctorate in Business Administration.
Joe Shami, Chartered Marketer
Joe has held a number of senior marketing posts with FTSE 250 companies. From 2001 he worked with a specialist management consultancy where he oversaw a major project with a leading global bank. He recently completed his MBA and is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica has worked in the marketing and business industry for over 15 years. Her roles have covered both client and agency sides. Jessica started her career as Marketing Manager for telegraph.co.uk the first and largest online newspaper in the UK. She has also developed loyalty programmes for Master Card and Cathay Pacific.
Her experience is international with key roles in Australia for News Limited in which she developed their home delivery network database which is now used in all News Limited publications as well as for Telstra (equivalent to BT in the UK) and Suncorp (Major Australian financial organisation).
Jessica now runs her own Marketing and Business Consultancy with key clients in the UK and abroad. In her spare time Jessica lectures in Marketing at Aberystwyth University.
Alicia Snow Chartered Marketer
Alicia became an assignment tutor after studying for 3 years as a distance learning student of the college, and successfully completing the CIM Certificate, Diploma and Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing whilst working full time in a marketing management role. Her current role is in luxury retail with premium brand Polo Ralph Lauren, where she is the CRM and Database Manager for UK and Europe. She has experience across industries including media, gaming and leisure, and retail.
Alicia strongly believes that her CIM qualifications have been integral to her career success to date, and is a great advocate of the college. In her spare time, Alicia enjoys being with the people she loves and is a self confessed food and wine lover, which is balanced out with her passion for running, yoga and the great outdoors!!
Paul Taylor
Over the last 15 years Paul has worked as a trainer and consultant with organisations ranging from Ericsson (global leadership programme delivered in 15 countries), British Gas and the DTI, through to start-ups.
As marketing manager at London Electricity he developed the strategy for the competitive business market and managed a multi-million pound budget. Paul has an MA in law and an MBA and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Management Institute.
David Tunney
A twenty year spell in the banking sector prepared David for a move in the marketing industry when he took forward an outdoor media business as part of the West Midlands Travel group. This was followed by development of UK operation dealing with charter holiday traffic and consulting work for local authority.
Exposure to public and private sector business provided David with a strong foundation to underpin a new career in further education. From1999 he has been delivering professional qualifications relating to management, finance, accounting and personnel. This includes Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications at all levels.
A Midlands man, other interests include photography, reading, travel and charity work.
Tony Varey
Tony Varey has spent a rich and varied marketing career to date spanning Product Management, Communications, Planning and Line Management roles in the oil industry (UK, Latin America and Middle East), and also in media, education and professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Marketing where he was the International Manager for 5 years.
Tony is now a freelance marketing adviser and interim manager, and tutors marketing students.
Lucy Venables
As a founding student of the Oxford College of Marketing, Lucy started her studies at Certificate level and gained her Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing in 2000 when she achieved a student of the year award from the Royal Counties branch. Throughout her career Lucy has worked in a wide variety of marketing roles including in the international publicity department of film distribution company United International Pictures, in sales and marketing for Huber & Suhner (UK) Limited, in product management for a character merchandise company, and as marketing communications manager for fuel and oil additives company Infineum International Limited. Lucy is now working as group communications manager for CRC Group plc, European technology repair specialists.
Philippa Varey MCIM Chartered Marketer
Philippa set up Oriel Marketing Ltd in 2005, a strategic marketing agency which exists to help companies grow and develop, by understanding what their customers really want and delivering it effectively. Well-respected as a specialist in strategy development and marketing communications, motivated by working with issues that really matter and committed to finding creative opportunities to make a difference.
Recent projects include marketing the qualifications division of a major institution, developing a new marketing proposition for a firm of solicitors, devising and introducing a new product development process in the insured healthcare market, and the development of a Europe-wide marketing campaign for a road safety organisation.
Previous experience includes heading up the marketing team for AA Insurance, specialising in customer retention strategies and new product development.
As well as supporting students of the Oxford College of Marketing, Philippa is also working with Young Enterprise to share business knowledge with school pupils and running marketing workshops for start up businesses.
Gillian Waters, BA Hons Dip.M MCIM MBA, Chartered Marketer
Gill has been an Examiner with CIM for over 15 years at Stage 2 - initially as a member of the team and subsequently deputy senior examiner for Marketing Operations, and has been a member of the MMIP examination and feedback team since its introduction for the standard and interim boards. In addition, she moderates across the Professional Diploma and Certificate levels for the interim boards.
One of the original cohort of Chartered Marketers, Gill has the PG Diploma in Marketing, MBA (OU) and a teaching qualification in non-compulsory further and higher education.
Fellow of CIM, still Examiner/moderator on Interim Boards, Examiner on MMiP until June 2010, Examiner on Managing Marketing from September 2009, and Deputy Senior Examiner on Project Management in Marketing.
Georgina Whyatt
Georgina is a senior lecturer in marketing and retail management at Oxford Brookes University. For some years prior to this she combined the position of lecturer and town centre manager. The latter role varied from drawing up a strategy and implementing a series of marketing initiatives for the town's regeneration, to advising independent retailers and managing relationships with all main stakeholders.
Georgina's marketing experience was first gained in retail buying positions at Littlewoods and Empire Stores. Following these she worked in Hong Kong where she ran an organisation that protected the interests of Hong Kong manufacturers and exporters. Georgina has a degree in textile design, an MBA and Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Pauline Williams
Pauline took over the Assignment baton from Jane Horne in early 2007 having worked with us for a year in the customer services team.
Pauline has over eight years experience as a Business Development Manager, working in IT Training and software development. She has project managed Windows Migration Projects for major corporate accounts which ranged in size from 50 to 2,000 members of staff. Her clients have included British Gas and Racal. She has also been responsible for recruiting, training and managing new sales teams for two expanding IT training companies, through graduate recruitment programmes.
Momodou Willan
Mo manages his own marketing consultancy company in London and has over the years carried out consultancy assignments for several organisations including Barclays Bank, Coca cola and The British Council. Over the past six years, Mo has trained over 2000 marketing executives mainly in UK, Eastern Europe and Africa. Prior to setting up his consultancy, he worked for four years as Group Marketing Manager (West Africa) for the French multinational firm Cement Françoise.
Mo holds a professional Postgraduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, MA Marketing from Greenwich University, MBA from Lincoln University, MPhil from Cranfield University School of Management and is a final year PhD candidate.
Mo is a visiting lecturer at the London Metropolitan University and the University of East London.
Lynda Willis, Chartered Marketer
Lynda Willis is a marketing and media services professional with over 18 years in the industry under her belt. Her career started off in the Northern Bank where she held a variety of management roles in public relations and marketing.
In 2004 she set up her own business, Lynda Willis Marketing and Media Services, and has already established herself as an excellent external marketing and media resource for the small business sector. But not flowery words in fancy documents, Lynda helps businesses implement practical and cost-effective marketing strategies that lead to increased turnover, ranging from print management, press releases, publications management, market research, drawing up marketing plans and even staff training.
Living in Northern Ireland, Lynda is a Chartered Marketer and is also Small Business Adviser for the Southern Regional College in Newry. She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing in 1995 and the CIM E-Marketing Award in 2006.
Anna Wycherley
Anna runs her own business providing languages services to primary schools as well as working freelance as a consultant and setting up the new Oxford College of Marketing centre in the North West.
She has managed many projects for FTSE 100 companies and has advised a variety of small businesses on their marketing strategies. She was involved in a national £8m campaign to increase recycling and has project managed the British Land Corporate Responsibility Report for the past two years.
A languages graduate with a First Class BA Joint Hons, she has a number of marketing qualifications including the Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma In Marketing in Marketing with distinction and two credits.
Jane Young
Jane has a BA (Hons) in business studies and worked in several major media and full service advertising agencies up to media group manager level before taking a break to start a family. She now manages the administration and applications for Oxford College of Marketing.
