The Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing is a Level 6 Digital Marketing Course (equivalent to an undergraduate degree). The qualification provides the latest professional standard for digital marketing.

This qualification will ensure you are up-to-date on the latest digital marketing thinking and be able to apply these to your own digital strategy. The Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing will enable you to develop practical skills in managing digital marketing operations from a strategic perspective. It is suitable for those who wish to be a digital expert and move into a mid-management position.

If you have previously completed the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing (2019 syllabus), you will be exempt from the Marketing & Digital Strategy module from the Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing.  This means you can gain this qualification by completing just two assignment-based modules.

Free Project Management Qualification

Course Structure

The qualification is made up of three mandatory modules; Marketing & Digital Strategy, Digital Optimisation and The Digital Customer Experience. Units can be studied in any order. You can download the full syllabus here.

Each module is assessed by a work-based assignment and you will work with an experienced personal tutor during this time. They will guide you through the assessment process and our study timetable, answering any questions you have. Your personal tutor will review your assessment tasks, providing you with detailed feedback on an initial plan and a draft, before your final submission of your work to the CIM.

Marketing and Digital Strategy

This module is part of both this qualification and the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing. The unit will facilitate you in the creation of strategic marketing plans through providing an introduction to contemporary frameworks and practices. It focuses on the key stages of the planning process, including undertaking a marketing audit, setting objectives through to strategy creation, tactics and resource planning. You will also see how digital strategy and channels can be integrated into this process too.

Digital Optimisation

This module will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills to successfully optimise the performance of digital marketing channels. You will understand how to interpret detailed insights from the digital marketing environment and how these can then be used to create an effective conversion optimisation plan. The module also focuses on analytics and metrics to assist in analysing the optimisations undertaken.

The Digital Customer Experience

This unit is a mandatory module for this qualification and can also be studied as an elective unit for the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing. The Digital Customer Experience module will provide you with the knowledge needed to improve and enhance the customer journey as well as managing the digital channels used within it. You will enhance your knowledge of changing consumer behaviour and develop the skills to select suitable channels to meet customer needs. The module will enable you to create an appropriate customer experience for your organisation, that considers the company’s abilities and wider legislation.

Entry Requirements

The Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing is a degree-level qualification and is designed for marketers who are currently working at an operational marketing management level or aspire to do so.

Most delegates studying at this level are graduates, hold a degree equivalent qualification or have previously completed the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing. Many of our students find it useful to have at least two years’ experience in marketing and currently working within a marketing role.

For delegates who have not studied marketing before or wish to refresh their knowledge of basic marketing theory, we have developed a two-day intensive course (available face-to-face or online) which is available free of charge to everyone. Course Start Dates

The Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing modules can be studied in any order. For classroom-based courses, delegates can start in September, January, April and July, while online distance learning can be started at any time.


The Level 6 CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing starts from £450.00 + VAT per module for distance learning, £616.66 + VAT per module for virtual-learning, and £730 + VAT per module for classroom-based learning.

Please Note: The course costs do not include the CIM membership or assessment fees. However, we do provide support and access to all the course materials for up to 3 years.

Study Options

The CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing can be studied via three flexible study methods: virtual classes, face-to-face classes, and pure distance-learning:

Virtual Classes

Our virtual classes are live sessions which are delivered by our expert course tutors over Zoom – combining the convenience of online studying with the interaction of live classes.

We are currently offering virtual evening-classes (18:30-20:30 one evening per week), virtual weekend-classes (09:30-12:30 across four weekend workshops) and virtual afternoon-classes (14:30-16:30 one afternoon per week).

Face-To-Face Classes

From September 2021 we will be resuming our traditional face-to-face classes delivered at our 20 UK study centres. We offer part-time evening classes (18:00-21:00 one evening per week) and Intensive Weekend Classes (09:30-17:00 over one full weekend per module).

Delegates who study via our face-to-face classes will also receive access to our online learning platform and course materials.

Distance Learning

For delegates who are unable to commit to our live classes, we offer a highly flexible distance-learning package, allowing you to study at your own pace.

FastTrack Study Options

For delegates who have more time or wish to complete their studies in a shorter period, we offer several flexible, fast-track, fully supported study routes.
