The CIPR Professional PR Certificate is the perfect qualification for graduates aiming for a career in PR or for professionals with some prior experience within the sector. The CIPR Certificate will introduce you to the context, concepts, and tools of PR in order to develop your knowledge and confidence within the discipline.

This qualification will give you an understanding of the role of PR within organisations as well as how to successfully develop and measure PR plans. You will learn how to communicate effectively and how to respond to audience reactions to PR activities. The course will take between 10 and 12 months to complete.

The CIPR Certificate in Public Relations can be studied via either distance learning, virtual classes or face-to-face classes. If you choose to study via online distance learning, you can start at any time. If you choose virtual or face to face classes, there are various start dates throughout the year, January, April, July and October.

What’s Involved

To gain the full Certificate in Public Relations, you will need to complete three units.

Unit 1: PR in Context: Research and Planning

This unit explores the role PR plays within organisations and society as well as how it can add value. You will learn about the practical challenges of running successful PR campaigns and how to effectively research, plan and execute a PR strategy. This unit is assessed by a practical assignment.

Unit 2: Content, Media and Engagement

This unit explores how to create and manage effective communication, as well as how audiences respond to PR activities. You will learn the key concepts and theories related to PR practice, including the use and management of media channels. The unit also looks considers the importance of storytelling and how practitioners can create new creative and content to support this. This unit is assessed by a practical assignment.

Unit 3: Measurement, Evaluation and Professional Ethics

This unit focuses on the delivery of PR activities and how they are monitored and measured. You will be introduced to key legal and regulatory concepts, and you will explore the links between objective setting in Unit 1 and content development in Unit 2. This unit is assessed by a practical assignment.

The CIPR Professional Certificate is designed for graduates looking to pursue a career in PR.

To undertake this qualification, you are required to have one of the following:

  • GCSE or A-Level qualification and have 1-2 years’ experience in a PR environment
  • Have completed the CIPR Level 3 Foundation or similar relevant qualification
