ISM Level 5 – The Certificate in Sales and Account Management

The ISM Level 5 Certificate in Sales and Account Management is the third tier in the ISM qualifications.  While they are designed specifically for experienced sales professionals, with responsibility for accounts, regional teams and key account holders, they are also used for enthusiastic sales professionals wanting to advance.  All tiers of qualification (Award, Certificate and Diploma) are in line with other Ofqual recognised qualifications such as a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree.  All work is assessed via assignment-based work and no examinations, making this course flexible and suited to a busy sales professional.

Each module within the Certificate in Sales and Account Management can be studied as a standalone Award. The Certificate is achieved when a student achieves 26 credits through the completion of a combination of mandatory units, as shown below.

  • U401 Managing responsible selling (4 credits) – assessed via work-based evidence or assignment

  • U501 Understanding and developing customer accounts (8 credits) – assessed via work-based evidence or assignment

  • U502 Understanding the integrated functions of sales and marketing (8 credits) – assessed via work-based evidence or assignment

  • U503 Sales forecasts and target setting (6 credits) – assessed via work-based evidence or assignment

*Please note that ‘Managing responsible selling’ is taken from the Level 4 qualification, and can be studied as a standalone Level 4 Award

Entry Requirements

The Level 5 courses are designed for practising sales or account managers, or for those who are wanting to transition into these roles in the future.  The qualification is useful for supporting those who are currently in an operational sales position that requires them to manage people and/or resources. While there are no formal entry requirements, you must be over the age of 19 years old and have your entry level approved by a member of the Oxford College of Marketing team.

If you are looking for a more comprehensive qualification The Level 5 Diploma in Sales and Account Management maybe a suitable alternative.

What You Will Learn?

We offer the full range of Level 5units which can be studied as a single Award, or they can be developed to build a higher qualification:

  • Award in Sales and Account Management : each unit can be described as a single Award
  • The Certificate in Sales and Account Management is awarded on the completion of the mandatory units, giving a minimum total of 26 credits.
  • Diploma in Sales and Account Management is awarded on the completion of all the mandatory units plus any four of the optional units. This will give a total of 44 credits.

All units are assessed via work-based evidence OR work-based assignment. The units are:

U401 Managing responsible selling (4 credits)

This unit aims to develop understanding in how an organisation’s operations can be managed in ways that are consistent with its social and ethical principles as well as fulfilling legal and regulatory requirements.
Mandatory for the Certificate. Qualifies for Singular Award.

U501 Understanding and developing customer accounts (8 credits)

The aim of this unit is to support knowledge and skills necessary to establish how customers select suppliers as part of their supply chain and use this information to develop a customer account plan.
Mandatory for the Certificate. Qualifies for Singular Award.

U502 Understanding the integrated functions of sales and marketing (8 credits)

This unit aims to develop knowledge in the commercial important of marketing to the success of an organisation as well as how marketing and sales can work together to achieve wider business goals.
Mandatory for the Certificate. Qualifies for Singular Award.

U503 Sales forecasts and target setting (6 credits)

This unit aims to develop understanding in how to forecast sales as well as setting sales target for areas of responsibility.
Mandatory for the Certificate. Qualifies for Singular Award.

Study Options

This course is offered at Oxford College of Marketing as an online distance learning course.

You will also be supported throughout the units by a personal tutor who you can contact and will answer any questions about the unit content or help you with assessment queries.

How long will the course take?

We believe in a flexible approach and so you can start your studying as soon as you like.  The ISM courses are based on a credit system, with each credit being recommended 10 learning hours. For example: U501 Understanding and developing customer accounts, 8 credits = 80 learning hours including assignment.

The College provides three years of support for each student from the date they enrol.  This will give you plenty of time to complete your ISM qualification.  We recommend the following timings as a guide for completion of each qualification tier.

  • Award: 1.5 to 2 months
  • Certificate: 6 to 9 months
  • Diploma: 12 to 18 months
