The course will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Account management responsibilities, understanding the expectations of the role, from senior leadership to junior roles, and how these expectations differ from client to supplier.
  • Recognising common client relationship challenges and developing strategies to manage them successfully, including dealing with ‘difficult’ clients.
  • The Client/Consultancy life cycle and how to manage the various stages of it.
  • Growing your client account/portfolio in revenue terms – the secrets behind up selling and how to present ideas to your client that get buy in.
  • Understanding finances and contracts management, knowing what to look for and how to answer the tough questions.
  • Develop communication skills, including listening, questioning, and non-verbal cues, to manage client interactions and control conversations.
  • Leadership development and understanding the difference between being a manager and a leader. How to inspire your team and set high standards for yourself.
  • Effective delegation techniques, ensuring tasks are managed efficiently and that you provide clear, inspiring instructions.

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Implement strategies and tactics to successfully manage and grow client accounts.
  • Identify client types and alter behaviour to ensure good relations with every client – regardless of how they behave.

Steve Dunne is a Fellow of the PRCA, and a holder of a lifetime achievement award from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is one of the UK’s leading PR and communications trainers.

Steve was Head of Communications for British Telecom, HSBC and South African Airways. He is a former board director of communications agency Porter Novelli, managing director of Affinity Consulting and Executive Chair of Brighter Group. He is currently CEO of Digital Drums Ltd.  Having worked in-house and agency side for over 35 years Steve knows what makes a great account manager and what doesn’t.
